Participants can walk, run or hike and pick and place and pace. You just have to get outdoors and do it sometime between April 17 and 26.

If you want to join a Happy Little event, one is planned for April 18 at Bay City State Park.

For more information and other related events, see Michigan.gov/DNRHappyLittleTrees.

2 –  Large-scale photographs of lakes Erie, Huron, Michigan and Superior are the subject of an exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Arts. But anyone with an Instagram account can get in on the action.

The exhibition is by Detroit area photographer Jeff Gaydash

The DIA says the photographer is known for his expertise with black-and-white digital printing and has traveled to coastlines throughout Michigan to capture the sublime beauty and quiet solitude of the lakes.

Organizers are encouraging Instagram submissions as part of the exhibition.

People can use the hashtag #MyGreatLakesattheDIA to post their photographs.

A selection of tagged Instagram photos will be printed at the DIA and available for viewing at a special location in the exhibition.

The exhibition is open through May 3.
