The Inflation Reduction Act authorized the U.S. Department of Energy to carry out Home Energy Rebate Programs. The programs are to help households save on energy bills, improve energy efficiency, and reduce indoor and outdoor air pollution.

Michigan received about $211 million for Home Efficiency Rebates and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates.

The program is slated to open to Michigan households in October.

More information on the Home Energy Rebate Programs is online at Michigan.gov/EGLE. You can register to attend in person or virtual sessions to learn more and provide input.

2 – Michigan is receiving $2 million to help local governments and communities plan for large-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects.

Michigan is one of six states receiving funds.

Federal officials say solar and wind energy, and battery storage, are on the rise throughout America.

This year, solar, wind and battery storage are expected to make up a record-breaking 94 percent of the nation’s new electric generation.

Often, the biggest barrier to deploying clean generation is siting and permitting

Michigan will use its $2 million to establish a one-stop-shop for resources and experts in the field of renewable energy siting and provide no-cost technical assistance to communities.
