1 – School is back in session. Teachers who have questions about our changing climate may want to check out an online resource at Climate.us.
The website was mentioned on this segment back in July. It was built by former members of Climate.gov after the Trump administration ended day-to-day operations.
Organizers say there are hundreds of free, ready-to-use resources that teachers can access for free at Climate.us/Teaching. The information is reviewed by editors and scientists and most suitable for secondary through higher education classrooms.

2 – Michigan’s only native grasshopper is rare. But one was found in a nature sanctuary in Roscommon County.
A conservation coordinator from the Michigan Nature Association discovered the insect, known as the Michigan bog grasshopper, during an insect survey in July.
The secretive locust is described as a small, flightless grasshopper found primarily in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula. It’s typically a brownish-gray. Males sport a dark stripe down their backs. Both sexes have red undersides.
The Michigan bog grasshopper is classified as state Species of Special Concern, with a rank of imperiled. The surveyor who found the insect says they’re not known to be anywhere else in the world outside of Michigan.

3 – What was Lake Huron like 2.5 billion years ago? Researchers and online viewers got a peek this week.
As explained by Inspired Planet Productions, there’s a Middle Island Sinkhole hidden beneath the waters of Lake Huron.
It was formed over thousands of years as groundwater dissolved limestone beneath the lakebed. The sinkhole plunges 80 feet below the surface into a colorful ecosystem unlike anything in the Great Lakes.
A livestream was held on Thursday, Sept. 16, to provide an up-close look at the area.
