1 – Bay City is a featured port on a Great Lakes cruise marketing program.
The program, called Cruise the Great Lakes, has said cruises are projected to welcome over 22,000 passengers this year, with more than 700 port visits planned.
Featured ports at CruiseTheGreatLakes.com include Bay City, with a preview that says “Here, you can explore six eclectic towns all from one dock.”

Popular shore excursions include a riverboat tour of the Saginaw River, shopping and dining in downtown Bay City and touring the historic USS Edson naval ship in Bangor Township.
Other cruise stops include East Tawas and Detroit, as well as Buffalo-Niagara, New York; Cleveland, Ohio; and Duluth, Minnesota.
The economic impact of cruises to the Great Lakes region, estimated at more than $230 million, was highlighted at a meeting last weekend of U.S. and Canadian governors and premiers.

2 – Michigan is planning a Lake Huron Flooding Resilience Study.
It’s part of a proposed Coastal Management Program strategy. The state’s environmental agency is taking public comments until Nov. 7.
The state Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, along with regional planning partners, will use research and firsthand accounts to identify and understand areas at risk of major flooding in coastal communities.
A task force will bring together communities and nonprofits to assess and consider solutions for addressing Lake Huron coastal flooding.
A technical guide will be developed to present the research findings and recommend actions for communities to become more resilient to flooding risks.
The Lake Huron region was selected for the study due to input from local officials who identified flooding as a main concern.
More info is online under “Coastal Management” at Michigan.gov/EGLE.
